Katja Claus is one of the members of our Organizing Committee. In her daily life Katja works as a policy adviser at the Department of Environment & Spatial Development of the Flemish Government (Belgium). She is one of the pioneers involved in ecological engineering projects, started in the early 90’s in Flanders. This included writing manuals, setting up pilot projects, organizing courses but also the realisation of ecoducts.

In recent years, defragmentation of national roads is one of the main topics in her work. This implies a close cooperation with partners from both nature and road administrations. Currently her job mainly includes setting up preliminary studies and monitoring of projects. Ecological monitoring is one of her favourite interests because that’s what is all about. Finding the first footprints and animals on a newly built ecopassage, when the machines hardly left the site, makes her truly happy!
